FAIRY & FANTASY MOVIE REVIEWS

More Fantasy and Gothic Favorites
I have not gotten around to reviewing some of my favorite
films yet, nor are they yet available as Amazon Unbox downloads,
so I've listed them here, with some notes. As far as I'm
concerned, these are all 5-star movies.
· The
Secret of Roan Inish
(1995) - A haunting tale of myth and magic set in
Ireland, by noted independent filmmaker John Sayles.
· The
Crow
(1994) - The gothic classic starring Brandon Lee as
a dead rock musician, in the film that, in a stroke
of unbelievably grim irony, proved fatal to the actor.
· Pan's
Labyrinth
(2006) - This brilliant Mexican-made piece won Oscars for
best foreign film, special effects, and storyline. In Spanish,
with subtitles.
· The
Company of Wolves
(1984) - A nicely dark, gothic and multi-layered retelling
of the
Little Red Riding Hood fairytale.
· Edward
Scissorhands
(1990) - The Tim Burton piece starring Johnny Depp.
For now I'll just quote Amazon.com : "
Edward
Scissorhands achieves the nearly impossible feat
of capturing the delicate flavor of a fable or fairy
tale in a live-action movie."
