DRAGONHEART: A REVIEW

A Captivating Dragon in an Uneven Movie

dragonheartThe dragon, Draco, endowed with Sean Connery's voice, is charming, a perfect delight. The main plot about the last dragon and the last dragon-slayer (played by Dennis Quaid) teaming up to perpetrate a profitable hoax on an unsuspecting populace is also most original, entertaining, and fun.

But the movie gets lost. Personally, I found the tortuous and drawn-out sub-plot, involving the somewhat gratuitous heroine and the loutish prince who's determined to subdue her, both hackneyed and tedious.

It's still very much worth watching, mostly for the sake of the sage and witty dragon. So much so that I sincerely regret the subplot that feels as if it was stuffed in for filler. This could have been a truly great dragon movie.

You can of course, if you want to, fast-forward through the subplot parts. And of course, the special effects are breathtaking.
