FLYING DRAGON SCULPTURE

By C. Maria Plieger

I completed this commissioned flying dragon sculpture in August 2002. With its 38-inch wingspread, shipping this dragon proved a bit of a challenge. In fact, getting it out of our house was a bit of a challenge! (My husband ended up taking the front door off its hinges so we could get the shipping box through.) Anyway, the flying dragon is safely in his new home in Texas, where he will "soar" loftily below a cathedral ceiling.

The dragon's body is made chiefly from paper clay. Extremities and protuberances such as horns, claws, tongue, tail tip, and wingtips are made of strong polymer clay.
